guardian ep2 !!!
@oneiro-nautical hell yeah beloved
ah yes. he fell fifty feet off a building but he's climbing out of a bush with a bit of a backache. definitely no secret superhero identity here. very convincing 👍
oh zhao yunlan Suspects.
and zhao yunlan is Right
LI QIAN NOOOO BABY PLEASE DON'T DO THAT okay okay good
god this poor girl.
so now we're cold opening with the are you single. normal heterosexual man conversations between normal heterosexual men. 'you're so talented and considerate you'd be a real catch dude <3_<3 in a bro way of course'
i don't know how much of an effort my man shen wei is making to conceal the overwhelming all-encompassing love radiating from his face whenever he looks at zhao yunlan but if he is making any effort at all it is failing miserably. man's smitten
they're gonna go out on a daaaaaate they're daaaaaaaaating
i ship xiao guo and lao chu. buzzcut and baby. grumpy and sunshine. you agree
i feel so bad for cats in movies they so often look like they really terribly don't want to be where they are
evil guy in the hospital is kinda cute though. but he knocked out baby guo so i don't like him
the combo gaze lift and jaw clench................ look all im saying is shen wei can get it. also i am clearly not alone in this opinion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
lmao
on a more serious note. zhao yunlan be nice to her for christ's sake she didn't kill her grandma*
on a less serious note. shen wei looks fine as hell with the wind in his hair
'i'm willing to exchange my life for his.' oh i feel it already that is foreshadowing and i Do Not Like
*or did she
grandma ;-;
ooh it's our old friend mr cloak n dagger who is definitely not shen wei in a bedsheet and a mask no way no sir
holy shit grandma took the sleeping pills so li qian couldn't. that's so fucking sad. damn.
i do like how apparently xiao guo unconsciously gravitates towards lao chu at the slightest provocation. like a kitten imprinting on a grumpy old dog
the waist on shen wei in that suit hot damn
aaand here he is again (mr black cloak)
wish i understood the characters on the gamepieces this mysterious evil guy is playing with while evilly plotting. i feel like there's some symbolism i'm missing
in conclusion: ass ogling? in my bromance cdrama??? it's more likely than you think

So, Word of Honor Ep 23, and LISTEN. This is going to be another long one. We are in it, now.
(Clearly, spoilers, so if you’re thinking you might want to start watching and don’t want to know everything up front, scroll away and come back after you watch the ep.)
Look, I’m just gonna talk about this first because I can’t even process anything else, or function, until I get this out of the way: I came for the bl and the pretty boys, but at this point, I have to reiterate what I said after Ep 22, that I am so grateful Zhou Ye got her fingers into Gu Xiang and absolutely refused to let go of this role, through everything. She’s going on my actors-to-follow list, and I’ll also be following scriptwriter Xiao Chu into whatever she writes from now on. A little bit, I’ve come out of Ep 23 thinking, did anything else even happen, other than That Scene with A-Xiang and Wen Kexing? (Oh, yeah, That Other Scene with Wen Kexing and Cao Weining about Gu Xiang.) The show is going to have to work to top That Scene for me. The first time watching, I couldn’t even really focus on how the Gu Xiang/Cao Weining and Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu relationships continue to reflect each other and how everything A-Xiang expresses during this conversation is exactly what Wen Kexing feels/fears about himself but cannot say out loud. All of that was there, and I mentally picked through it and unpacked it some more on a re-watch of the scene, but the first time through, I was too busy being legit distressed about Gu Xiang’s fear and pain and how desperately she wants this new thing and how afraid she is, not only of fucking it up or having it fucked up for her, but of getting it. Last night at dinner I compared this storyline to a kind of reverse Persephone story, where she’s being pulled by her lover OUT of the land of death, but is nevertheless having to leave behind everything and everyone she knows and is familiar with, including her beloved brother/parent figure. And all this after being told for essentially her whole life that what she’s doing is forbidden and unworkable, that the human world and the world of Ghost Valley do not mix. (We just saw Wen Kexing have his own little mental stall over this, just so the show can make sure we don’t forget.) And Gu Xiang is so unprepared for all of this and so terrified by it, despite the fact she wants it so badly, that she literally cannot do anything - this shining, clever, fierce girl who will stab you if you look at her the wrong way because she’s been taught to survive above all else - she can’t do anything other than sit down with her arms wrapped around her knees pulled to her chest so that she’s the smallest target possible, protecting all the tenderest, most vulnerable places, and weep. Y’all, it is killing me even thinking about it. I might have to take a minute.
So, then they come at me with the second hit of the one-two punch, which is the scene between Wen Kexing and Cao Weining, where Wen Kexing talks about how this little girl not only saved him, but he calls her meimei, and at that point, I’m done. I’m just. There’s nothing else I need right now from this show. I realize this is supposed to be a story about Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu, and up until now, my ride-or-die has been Zhou Zishu, but whatever. Fine. I WANT TO LIVE HERE AT LI MANOR FOREVER, SHOW, WHY MUST A-XIANG AND CAO-XIONG GO BACK TO HIS SECT? Listen, I think it is a far, far better idea if Cao Weining marries in to Four Seasons Manor, and Gu Xiang’s paternal figure is the ... lol, I almost just called him the Ghost General ... he is who he is, so frankly, I don’t know why he should be so concerned about following social conventions, like having daughters of the house marry out. (I know you think you’re protecting her, Lao Wen, but YOU ARE BREAKING UP THE FAMILY. I need them to stay with the rest of you forever. I need Zhou Zishu to continue to call A-Xiang a “good girl,” because I suspect that hasn’t happened very often in her life, and she needs more of it.) Then, as a last kick in the ribs, once I’m down, the show has WKX tell A-Xiang that she’s not a wild girl because she’s his girl. Thanks, show, I didn’t need my heart for anything like pumping blood to oxygenate my brain or any of my body parts. It’s OK. I can do without it.
Anyway, going back and looking at multiple story-telling levels of all this, there’s the additional issue that during That Scene, A-Xiang is also a proxy for Wen Kexing, saying things that he can’t. (For emotional and psychological reasons within the show, and for practical reasons because they probably wouldn’t pass censorship.) Maybe some things that he can’t even let himself think, at this point. So every time, from here on out, when Zhou Zishu asks Wen Kexing about his past and Wen Kexing momentarily freezes with that trapped look on his face, we can think back to this conversation with A-Xiang and realize that Wen Kexing is terrified by his relationship with Zhou Zishu, despite how desperately he wants this new thing. He is so afraid of fucking it up, but he’s also so afraid of getting it, and he’s so unprepared for it that he literally cannot do anything - this fierce survivor, this ghost king, who will crawl over corpses and skin a guy alive and kill you if you look at him the wrong way because almost (almost) all he’s known is to survive above all else - he cannot do anything except mentally and emotionally curl up so that he’s the smallest target possible, protecting all the tenderest, most vulnerable places. So thanks, show, for what promises to be a repeated exercise of stabbing me in the heart.
Just a little bit more about these scenes: I also think we’re getting at least one, maybe two other foils in the story-telling, which are more about the Wen Kexing-Gu Xiang relationship. Maybe less supported but nevertheless intriguing, I have to wonder if, when he took on that little girl despite (or maybe because of) still being essentially a child himself, Wen Kexing was trying to re-create - even subconsciously - something of the shixiong-shidi relationship he experienced for that brief time with Zhou Zishu as a child. Yes, she saved him by making him keep his heart, because he had this actual nurturing relationship to at least try to model their relationship on. I also think that we’re maybe supposed to be seeing them as a foil to Xie Wang and his AWFUL yifu, who appears to have taken on a kid and turned him into a murder weapon not in any effort to help him survive, but to use him as a tool in his quest for power. Both Wen Kexing and Zhao Jing have produced Poorly Socialized Murder Babies Who Love Them Very Much, but I think Wen Kexing actually had his kid’s best interests at heart, as he understood them, and tried to do the best he could with the extremely broken tool box he had to hand. Also, he loves her back. All that doesn’t mean she’s not fucked up or necessarily any better prepared for the “human” world than Xie Wang, but it may have made the difference between an amoral murder baby who can learn better and an actual sociopath.
In other comparisons, that first convo of the ep between Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing - when ZZS says that he doesn’t want to see more sins on WKX’s hands - is essentially the same convo that Cao Weining had with Gu Xiang in the previous ep, when he tells her that he wants her to be more careful because he knows she actually will feel bad for killing innocent people. This is the same conversation because these two relationships are the same relationship. (Note, I don’t think they started out like this, or that their beginnings were all that similar. Cao Weining was much more of a pursuer and initiator than Zhou Zishu was, in the beginning. But I think the courses of the two relationships have converged, at this point, with Cao Weining and Zhou Zishu knowing what they want and being all in, while Gu Xiang and Wen Kexing also want it but are too fucking scared of it for practically the same reasons.)
Meanwhile, speaking of Xie Wang - what are you up to Xie’er? Do you want the Water of Lethe so you can drink it and get over your awful yifu? Are you finally at the point that you’re doing some critical thinking about this relationship? Or do you want the Water of Lethe so you can slip it to your awful yifu, so that he’ll forget about his obsessions with power that prevent him from focusing on YOU? You call Beauty Ghost an idiot, but I think you may be empathizing (though not sympathizing) a bit much with the women of the Department of the Unfaithful.
Finally, that brief little moment of Zhou Zishu’s face when Wen Kexing spits out his wine after stealing it from him ... Oh, god. You didn’t realize how bad it tasted, did you? Your sense of taste is going.

Guardian rewatch: Episode 1
I am not over how fantastic the Guardian was after finishing it a couple days ago. I will probably re-post some of my thoughts on the show overall here eventually, but for now, I thought I’d compile series of random observations as I go through the series second time around.
This is vastly inspired by canary3d’s wonderful Untamed recaps, but I’m neither as insightful, nor as witty as her, and have zero giffing skills.
Disclaimer as follows: I’m mildly dyslexic, and appreciate polite corrections. I know very very basic Chinese after studying it many many years ago, but I remember little, and rely on subs when watching anything. Generally, new to fandom, not great with tech; please be nice.
There will be spoilers for the series as whole.
So, here goes: Guardian Rewatch, Episode 1
Tumblr media
Watching the opening credits first time since the finale made me cry. That said, I have also watched the series from Viki, but am screen capping them from Youtube - and the opening credits here actually have… well, credits, so a mixed bag of emotions here.
Tumblr media
Pretty sure they blew 40% of their overall budget on the animated opening sequence; and on rewatch it’s actually making more sense. The is fairly good, as well, and I am fairly certain its narrated by Xiao Guo, establishing him as the POV character of sorts.
Tumblr media
Oh those introductions of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan are hot as hell, both of them confident in their own elements. It’s a great way to quickly summarise not just them individually, but the contrast between them, to the audience.
Tumblr media
The lollipops make their first appearance, before becoming narratively significant in about five different ways. We are also seeing Zhao Yunlan being a sly fox for the first time. He will remain sly fox for the duration of this show.
Tumblr media
We are treated to the first appearance of the ensemble cast, and I’m pretty sure they blew half of their CGI budget on the lovely scene of Xiao Guo being freaked out by the assortment of special abilities of his new team: Da Qing’s seamless cat transformation, Zhu Hong having a tail, Wang Zheng being all ghostly... they never look as great again. Not ever.  In hindsight, this feels like a mean tease: a promise of what this show could have looked like if the production company still had the money.
Tumblr media
I am also pretty sure Bai Yu has a motorbike double, which explains why the motorbike stops featuring after they can no longer afford a motorbike double. Or maybe motorcycle goes away because Zhao Yunlan needs a car to drive Shen Wei around. We’ll never know.
Tumblr media
Shen Wei seeing Kunlun for the first time (and seeing Da Qing for the first time) in a millennia. There is a hint of Baby Shen Wei-ness about him. There is longing and hope and youth. I’m sure he was not allowing himself to have that facial expression since he came out of the magical coma how many decades ago. God damn this is a good performance.
Tumblr media
“Shen Wei? Good name!” And Shen Wei actually flinches a little. And he forgets to let go of the hand after he shakes it. And he looks so unabashedly hopeful, clutching the business hard. On first watch it read as “huh? What’s up with this guy?” On second watch, it’s like a perfect piece of the puzzle, slotting in place. GOD DAMN this is a good performance.
Tumblr media
Here he is again: Baby Shen Wei in all his owlishness. They are talking in the office, and Kunlun has a new name, may or may not remember him, is definitely suspicious of him, but he also listens with the same intensity, and he is alive, and he is here, and Shen Wei is young again, looking so very happy.
Tumblr media
Oh yay Lao Chu’s puppet brother is here! Actually fighting side by side. This will never happen again. Because they will never again have the money.
Tumblr media
We are treated to a short mashup of Shen Wei’s memories as he is thinking “I hope you still remember our pact”. I wonder if there is a specific moment in the future when Shen Wei puts two and two (in this case: a man with a gun and processed sugar on a stick and super powerful artefacts that can do a lot of random magical stuff) together to make a time travel conclusion. Because it doesn’t happen straightaway.
Tumblr media
“I waited for you for ten thousand years”.
Tumblr media
The next day, Li Qian is asking “Is it worth doing anything to protect someone”? And Shen Wei replies that it is. Li Qian is reaching to touch the Hallow around her neck, a heirloom so important to her, chord looking so similar to the one hidden around Shen Wei’s own neck. Shen Wei looks over to Zhao Yunlan who is watching them converse. The... just the symbolism of this, is beautifully crafted as something you cannot possibly notice first time around.
Tumblr media
“Who knows”, says Shen Wei, when he speaks to Zhao Yunlan shortly after, “maybe we have met before.” He watches very very carefully to see if the words resonate. He watches so closely as Zhao Yunlan laughs and then steps away to answer a call. You know the exact moment it dawns on Shen Wei that Kunlun does not, in fact, remember anything, that it’s not a flirty game of cat and mouse. He honestly looks like he is about to cry.
Tumblr media
The first time we ever see Hei Pao Shi, he is not wearing a robe and a mask. First time we see Hei Pao Shi, he is facing off the Shadow Man while wearing a suit, looking stern and resolute (before being swiftly thrown off the roof)
Does he get flung off the roof deliberately so he can make his appearance in all his timeless glory as the world’s most powerful flex? Yes, yes he does.
Tumblr media
I thought this show was good first time around. It’s SUBLIME on rewatch.
Episode 2 will feature a lot of “Shen Wei, you bloody hypocrite”

ok so i started watching Reunion: The Sound of the Providence
i’ve been thinking about writing Guardian fics (fix-it fics because what the fuck) but there’s a lot of the plot/logic (namely the freaking Longevity Dial and the whole science of mixing light and dark energies) that i’m still trying to completely understand
anyway here’s an AU that i might never write because school will kick my butt:
-Shen Wei (Wu Xie, obv cuz Zhu Yilong) goes on all these tomb exploring adventures
-Da Qing i guess would be Zhang Qiling/Xiao Ge’s role cuz long-life/immortal or whatever
-ChuGuo will probably be there too cuz 1) they’re cute and 2) i wanna explore the relationship between Lao Chu and the Envoy [even if he’s not the Envoy in this life lol but their dynamic is kinda cool too]
-Ye Zun is a good guy but i wouldn’t have him appear until like a quarter way through because he’s a dramatic hoe... anyway he’d probably save his twin’s life at some point and gloat about it (even though he was actually worried out of his mind for his stupid brother)
-this tv series is about chasing thunder and the whole thing is about a thunder god... but the AU i suppose might be chasing earthquakes? about a mountain god?
-this series also mentions a “spiritual tool/holy tool” that was “probably from a meteorite” if i’m not mistaken and HM doesn’t that sound like the Hallows of the Guardian drama
-but instead of something that allows people to understand thunder/understand the word of the Heavens, Shen Wei finds an old lantern...
-(the other random thing i noticed was that Wu Erbai pushes up his glasses with two fingers the same way Shen Wei does, which is definitely just a coincidence for the actors but i just thought it was cool if this habit came from his uncle)
-idk dude just the angst of Shen Wei running out of time... and maybe right after they save Zhao Yunlan from the lantern, three months has passed :’ )
-also Zhao Yunlan is immortal now because i said so (but also cuz drama canon that being exposed to the Hallows does things to you)

WEILAN FIC REC
It's as the title says - the five times Shen Wei did a horny grip™ because let it be known that while Zhao Yunlan is explicitly shamelessly thirsty, Shen Wei is equally as thirsty but in a more lowkey manner. Oh, and of course, WeiLan as lesbians can't be passed up for this.(gift fic for taki who introduced the weilan lesbian agenda to me!)Hello! I finally had some time (spoiler: I actually didn’t but I can always have time for my dads) to properly make a compilation of WeiLan fanfic recommendations. I included some CN ones bc I absolutely love them to bits and pieces and some WeiLan derivatives bc why not.
Please click the kudos and leave a comment on the authors’ works to thank them and show your appreciation! <3 This will be updated periodically.
bc I’m shameless - imma shove my own weilan fics here
Title: Uhaw Summary: Shen Wei felt a smile on his face despite the seriousness of the situation. “Your loyalty will forever remain divided.” // “My loyalty is with you.” Zhao Yunlan declared. “Always has been, always will be.” [WEILAN MAFIA/GANGSTER AU 1/1] Notes: i was horny for weilan being horny for each other and being a power couple with some plot thrown in the mix im not sorry
Title: Devour Your God Summary: "The beast inside him howls and the inhumane thunderous chanting resounds in the beautiful ghost king. You remember don’t you? The more beautiful the ghost...the more terrifying."
[a look through shen wei's eyes as he goes through kunlun's multiple reincarnations until zhao yunlan; novel-compliant and shen san extra hints but should be spoiler free 1/1] Notes: sometimes we’re also sad in our weilan lives but do know they get their happy ending anyway
Title: Earlier On Summary: Zhao Yunlan starts remembering his life as Kunlun months after he first entered the world and his only clue resides on that creature (because his adult brain is now telling his baby brain that that wasn't a human) robed in white with a golden mask peering down on his crib. Notes: [novel-verse gift fic for orro AKA babey zhao yunlan having adult brain/memories who’s everyone’s source of headache]
Title: Five Times Shen Wei Did A Horny Grip Summary: It's as the title says - the five times Shen Wei did a horny grip™ because let it be known that while Zhao Yunlan is explicitly shamelessly thirsty, Shen Wei is equally as thirsty but in a more lowkey manner. Oh, and of course, WeiLan as lesbians can't be passed up for this. Notes: (gift fic for taki who introduced the weilan lesbian agenda to me!)
Title: Some Things Stay The Same and Some Don't  Summary: “Xiao Wei,” Zhao Yunlan called in a serious voice making Shen Wei stiffen in attention, “Your boobs are actually big, aren’t they?” Shen Wei almost slipped from her position at the unexpected - or well, this is Zhao Yunlan so perhaps ‘expected’ should be the term - comment. “Yunlan, honestly!” “No really, it’s bigger than mine.” “Everyone’s bigger than your tiny mangoes, stupid owner.” Da Qing laughed from the kitchen. “I think even Lin Jing and Lao Chu have bigger ones compared to you.” Notes: lesbian!weilans part 2 for emmy featuring the primordial gods, shen wei + mama zhao interaction, and kunlun taking in 2 ghost queens instead of just one
Title: Repercussions of Meddling Summary: “You know what the diviner’s instructions were, right? Gather the hallows and let fate run its course or else there can be dire consequences.” Zhao Yunlan clenched his fist as he recalls Shen Wei’s hardships paralleled with Ye Zun’s loss of sanity, the ghost lovers’ fate in an effort to protect him, the brewing war as the vision the hallows have given him on their deaths, and an ever burning flame on his soul as he watched Shen Wei disappear stay clear.“There can’t be anything more dire than that future.” The two leaders looked at each other meaningfully. “And if the bulk of the repercussions on you twisting the timeline falls on you?” Zhao Yunlan huffed in amusement and flipped his long hair to his back. “If I'm the one who has to pay then so be it.” Notes: aka ye zun is a bad influence to shen wei and add that in for 10,000 years where they're both awake, alive, and together waiting for a certain someone's reappearance in their lives --- THIS CAN GET DARK; drama canon divergence au where zhao yunlan as kunlun ends up saving ye zun in the past and meddling with time
Title: A Path Back Home Summary: The Dixing kingdom's delegation set off for a peace treaty with the kingdom of Haixing as new tides of the world was coming. For some, this was a turning point for the three kingdoms. For Ye Zun and his father, this was a chance to bring back their two other family members home with them. The past retains its stories and secrets, the present shakes the foundations of everyone's belief, and the future is a path back home. (read a/n before reading!) Notes: weilan royalty a/b/o au aka the most self-indulgent fic (it wasn’t supposed to be multi-chap but brain said ‘world building’ and now i suffer)
Title: where everything converges Summary: collection for weilan week prompts - day 1: beginnings (SID+SW meets the youngest primordial god) day 3: au (tgcf au of god!ZYL and ghost king!SW) day 7: anniversary (there will come a day where SW wakes up to the 5,000 years and 1 day of being with ZYL)
Title: in all worlds and in all timelines Summary: collection of weilan prompts (do send some and i’ll see if i can write it!)
Title: The Power of Words Summary: “You have lived for as long as I have and so you must know that words have power. The likes of old sayings and proverbs hold a decree to them the longer it’s passed around from one breathing soul to another. They become entities and binding spells on their own through time.”
“What has that got to do with anything right now? Ghost Slayer, you are already treading a dangerous path with the choices you have made the past months. Do I still need to remind you of this?” the spirit asked.
The black robed creature acted as if he didn’t hear his companion and spoke once more. “I suppose it doesn’t matter right as of this moment,” he crossed his legs and continued, “Let me tell you a story; a secret.” Notes: it was supposed to be a oneshot but my need for novel shen wei characterization bled through so now it’s a 3shot *sigh*
***
Title:  狗在江湖 Notes: this is a mix of novel and drama elements AND it’s a/b/o AND it has 30 chapters so obv i cried
Title: Sweet Dreams Summary:  朱白ABO,架空末世微悬疑。 Notes: okay so it was weird for me at first bc they were using zhubai’s names until i realized they were pertaining to weilan derivative in general AND OKAY LISTEN - the plot??? THE PLOT??? GLORIOUS
Title: 我说所有的酒都不如你 Summary: 这大概是一个东江二哈狼和东江气死猫你追我跑你继续追我假装跑你拼命追我跑不动了的爱情故事(。 Notes: 2Luo aka Luo Fusheng x Luo Fei weilan derivative and this is legit my favorite derivative fic!!! they mixed both dramas and fed me sentinel + guide trope AND THEN WOW PLOT
***
Title:  Black Cloak Reversed Summary:  Chief Zhao is a little too friendly with the Black-Cloaked Envoy. The members of the SID worry that he's being emotionally disloyal to Professor Shen. Notes: drama; zhao yunlan is a filthy, thirsty man and SID mourns over this fact
Title:  my heart broke loose on the wind Summary:  If Yunlan is going to learn how to make actual food that requires more effort than just boiling water and putting hot water into stuff, he’s going to have to take all the notes. “Right,” he says to himself. “How hard can it be?” He watches all twenty-two minutes and fourteen seconds of Chef Shen's video without fast-forwarding. When it comes to an end, he clicks on the replay button. He ends up taking zero notes, and the only thing he manages to learn from the whole exercise is that Chef Shen -Shen Wei- is really fucking beautiful when he smiles. Notes: au; alternative summary - ye zun: how thirsty are you for my bro zhao yunlan: thirsty? pls im a paragon of all things holy, i am a kind and generous citizen of the world, i am - ye zun: i can help you get in his pants  zhao yunlan: - thirsty af; i am very thirsty
Title:  when we reunite, the world will tilt on its axis Summary:  Zhao Yunlan tries to figure out how he should approach the matter of young Shen Wei. Notes: drama; babey!shen wei who's so earnest and genuinely in-love ahhh im soft
Title:  Wild Thing, Stop Your Teasing Summary: Shen Wei’s eyelid twitch as Yunlan unwraps another lollipop, closes his spit-shiny lips around the spherical head while looking at Shen Wei under dark eyes and thick lashes. Fists clenched on his pant leg, Shen Wei swallows and tamps down the urge to grab Yunlan across the table. Notes: drama; when you think zhao yunlan's thirst has a limit - he goes an open his mouth but hey shen wei's head over heels thousands of years ago already anyway
Title:  Tease the Wild Thing Summary: Yunlan's POV from shaenanigans' awesome fic ''Wild Thing, Stop your Teasing''. Yeah, it's the one with the lollipops, and the porn with feels. You know. The Good Stuff. Notes: more weilan smut after the one above?? SIGN ME TF UP
Title:  without complexities or pride Summary:  “Kunlun Hall’s rules do not apply to you,” Yunlan says simply, moving to steep some tea for Shen Wei. “You are the Black Cloak Envoy. Lord Kunlun holds you in high regard.” “And you hold him in high regard,” Shen Wei adds before he’s able to stop himself. Shen Wei can hear the wretched jealousy in his own voice, and no doubt Yunlan can as well, because Yunlan’s smile turns sly, and his eyes are very knowing when he says, “In a way, I suppose I do.” Notes: (Or, the Not-Exactly-A-Courtesan!Yunlan fic.) >> im crying bc YES
Title:  Every ridge hand-picked by the late sun’s slant light Summary:  Zhao Yunlan gets up to greet this man, his destiny – who is currently scowling behind his fancy embroidered mask – and smiles as filthily as he can make it. Whatever else they might be to each other, Shen Wei has been taunting him for weeks. Zhao Yunlan is going to take him home and fuck him until he cries and he wants Shen Wei to know that. “Long time, no see,” he says. The Black Cloaked Envoy blanches. Notes: when i say i thirst for weilan papapa where shen wei loses his self control - I MEAN IT
Title:  that's where you belong Summary:  First of all, how dare Shen Wei. Second of all, Zhao Yunlan has been looking forward to this for like, as long as he's been aware that Shen Wei is an alpha. Third of all -- Notes: im crying bc all i ever wanted was for novel weilan's characterization bc i know their papapa would be the hottest with that and i have been fed with this need and even partnered w/ a/b/o trope /SOBS
Title:  Just Cared Too Much Summary:  Zhao Yun Lan found out his father was dead while he was pouring concrete down the throat of a backstabbing dickbag. “Chief, I'm sorry, the Boss is gone. Shot to the head, on his way to meet the Russians.” Notes: i was dying to have a mafia au and this appeared THANK YOU; and def one of the other things that pushed me to finish my own mafia au for weilan lol
Title:  家教 - or - Domestic Education Summary:  Shen Wei is the Ghost King, born out of the unyielding chaos of entropy that had consumed the underworld before the creation of the wheel of reincarnation. He's the cosmic guardian of death and all her darlings, and the universe through the lens of his eye is rife with demons, hungry ghosts, and shadows creeping out of their places. So there is absolutely no way he is getting sick. Notes: im novel verse trash and we get that PLUS mama!zhao uhh hell yes???
Title:  Sarva Summary:  Or, 一切. At work, in public, Shen Wei is meticulously, seamlessly polite. In bed, he's something else. Notes:  this was the first weilan smut i read AND ALL THE YES BC SHEN WEI LOSING IT FOR ZHAO YUNLAN IS MY KINK
Title:  Future Forged Summary: Masquerading as Kunlun, Zhao Yunlan sets out on a mission to recover the stolen Hallows alongside the young Shen Wei. Along the way, he discovers new abilities, forges new bonds, unearths old histories, and learns that the universe goes beyond his wildest imagination. Notes: lol way better take on what happened during that time travel thing than what the drama had

Title:  Afterimage Summary:  Zhu Yi Long is an awkward turtle. Now he has to deal with letting Shen Wei and Ye Zun go. You’re supposed to be on my side, meant to pity me when the world turns against me. I deserve this day off and I reserve the right to do as I please. And if I want to be a slug in the bed then that’s what I’m going to do.” Notes: "It’s so gentle that Shen Wei almost can’t stand it, the way Zhao Yunlan lets him do as he likes, just receiving whatever Shen Wei wants to give him. And there’s so much that Shen Wei wants to lavish onto his Zhao Yunlan." -- dont bother for the ambulance i know im DOA
Title:  Heat and Desire Summary: Five times Zhao Yunlan had an oral fixation and one time Shen Wei did something about it. Shen Wei's closed fist is around him, pumping fast and tight in rhythm to his fucking, making him see stars exploding behind closed eyelids, thoroughly engulfed by the incredible sensations racketing up and down his spine originating from where they're so deliciously joined. Shen Wei's other hand cradles his jaw, careful, reverent, but also serves to ground Yunlan to the bed so Shen Wei can fuck him harder, deeper. Notes: i can never have enough weilan papapa bc if canon doesn't give me the explicit juicy details then im turning to fic writers with metaphorical gold payment
Title:  third time's the charm Summary: “I’m what Da Qing likes to describe as ‘especially tenacious’ when I’m in heat, even more so when I have a specific Alpha in mind,” Yunlan tells him, casual. (Or, three times Shen Wei helps Zhao Yunlan through his heat.) Notes: me, looking through the window with a faraway look: a/b/o universe makes me weak even if it's not even explicit
Title: this secret language that we speak Summary: "If you don't want to do this any more," says Shen Wei, "you get off the couch, and we'll do whatever you want. Do you understand?" Zhao Yunlan is so hot he thinks he's going to light the couch on fire. He swallows and nods."I didn't hear you," says Shen Wei, implacable as death. "Do you understand?" Zhao Yunlan has to clear his throat, and when he manages to speak, his voice is gravelled with arousal. "Yeah. I do." "Good," says Shen Wei. Notes: i cried 69 times bc my horny ass is fed and jfc domineering shen wei??? *cries for the 70th time*
Title: Shen Wei Summary: Shen Wei loves Zhao Yunlan, and there is only so long he can feign otherwise. Notes: [Zhao Yunlan gives a small shrug, uninvested in the argument. “All right. He sees faces crowding around him in varying degrees of worry, but the pain blinds him from putting names to the faces. His throat feels raw, as if he'd been screaming for centuries and realizes on the next breath that he's been screaming a name. Shen Wei's name. Notes: drama-verse but a hopeful one TYL im here for the whole the last episode didn’t happen bc we can use the plot that the drama threw away lol

The moments after, part 6
Read it on AO3 here. FYI, there are some sexy times here. If you aren’t into that, you should stop reading the chapter around the time you see the stuff in the preview and skip ALL THE WAY to the end where there’s like one relevant line before the next chapter.
PREVIEW: “If you’re awake enough to smile, you’re awake enough to get the plates,” Chu calls out as he spreads the food out.
“But it’s such a good dream Chu ge, five more minutes…”
Chu leans over the couch to whisper in Xiao Guo’s ear, “Am I in it?”
“Mmmm…”“Tell me more.”“Ngh… Chu ge… So....”
“So?”
“So… Cute,” Xiao Guo replies before kissing Chu on the nose. “D-did you think it was something naughty?” Xiao Guo sounds like he’s joking, but Chu notices the redness in his cheeks and tips of his ears.
“Your voice sounds innocent, but your face looks like you’ve been caught sinning,” Chu replies as he stands up. “Fine, I’ll go get the plates.”
Da Qing and Lao Chu had gone out, removing all the spell papers they could find around the building, fortunately they hadn’t lingered long enough to attract anything.
Shen Wei keeps one to study, his frown obvious. “This combination of spells… They’re…”
Yunlan looks up from a map with all the places where the spells were found highlighted, “What’s wrong with them?”
“They’re trying too hard.” Shen Wei starts pointing out flaws in all the scripts, finding areas where the spells actually interfere with each other. “This isn’t a proper practitioner. This isn’t even a demon.”
“A normal human has a grudge against Xiao Guo? He is literally the personification of good merit and good will,” says Da Qing. “Besides, who would even know besides us that he’s the lamp wick and then go telling demons about it?”
“Even normal humans can have their third eye opened. Worst of all, even humans can listen.”
Da Qing briefly remembers the fiasco with Congbo. “So who did Lao Zhao say something stupid in front of?”
Yunlan starts glaring from his chair, but Shen Wei speaks up first. “Arguing amongst ourselves will not solve anything. If it’s a human… It’s troubling that they’ve made contact and spread rumors. We also can’t rule out a demon working with a human.”
Da Qing gnaws on a dried fish. “So what do we do?”
Yunlan smiles. “Say Da Qing, since you like fish, how about we go fishing?”
--------
Guo slowly walks himself home, his right hand clutching the baton in his sweater pocket, his left arm still in a sling (at Chu ge’s request). Chu ge had apologized that he wasn’t able to come walk him home that night like he had the last few nights, paperwork for the gym had piled up and Zhu Hong would probably put snakes in his locker if he didn’t finish it all.
Guo smiled to himself, Chu ge had promised that he’d pick up dinner and watch a movie with him afterwards, which usually meant cuddling and making out on the couch after dinner. It was Guo’s favorite part of date nights if he was being honest and embarrassing. Chu ge’s mouth, hot and insistent, his hands cradling his head, stroking his back, his chest, his thighs… But careful, always so careful, like Guo was something precious that could break. It was nice, it felt very nice, but Chu ge always stopped himself in concern for Guo’s injuries. Or at least Guo thinks it’s because of his injuries. Guo insisted that the doctor had said it wasn’t necessary to be so careful anymore, but Chu ge, no stranger to broken bones, held firm.
“You see Xiao Guo, I am a powerful cat spirit, aren’t I? My healing spell worked like a charm on you,” Da Qing boasted while in cat form, laying on the leather couch.
Guo had been sufficiently wowed and gave Da Qing some applause and more fish. Lao Zhao threw a lollipop stick at him and told him to stop bragging.
“Who was it that only remembered how to speak cat 50 years ago, you fat cat!”
Everytime he thought about what was going on, gods, spirits, and demons, it made Guo’s head spin. He never thought he’d be in the middle of this sort of thing. It didn’t feel wrong though, if what Lao Zhao and Shen Laoshi had said about his past life was true, then surely he could handle this. Right?
The wind blew, shaking branches and shifting shadows. Guo decided to take no chances and walked a little faster. There was always tomorrow for being brave.
As he walked off, Guo did not notice the eyes watching him from behind, nor the piece of paper clinging to his shoe, waving like a yellow flag with each step.
-------
Chu lets himself into Xiao Guo’s apartment, the lights are dim and everything is quiet. Xiao Guo is laid out on the couch, dressed in his comfortable lounging clothes, napping peacefully. Chu presses a soft kiss into Xiao Guo’s forehead before going to set the table for dinner. Xiao Guo doesn’t stir, but he does smile.
“If you’re awake enough to smile, you’re awake enough to get the plates,” Chu calls out as he spreads the food out.
“But it’s such a good dream Chu ge, five more minutes…”
Chu leans over the couch to whisper in Xiao Guo’s ear, “Am I in it?”
“Mmmm…”
“Tell me more.”
“Ngh… Chu ge… So....”
“C-Chu ge!” Chu stops and turns around to see Xiao Guo attempting a demure expression, but his face is too red and he won’t make eye contact. “If you really want to know what was in my dream, maybe I should show you…”
Chu briefly allows his mind to run through the scenarios before replying in a deadpan voice, “Which porn did you pick up that awful line from?”
Xiao Guo’s face turns even redder before mumbling, “Lao Zhao told me to try it.”
“Did you actually ask that shameless Yunlan for advice in seducing me?”
“H-he said he remembers you have a-”
“Don’t you dare finish that sentence.” Xiao Guo’s mouth shuts with an audible click of his teeth which causes him to wince. Chu sits down next to Xiao Guo and holds his hands. “What’s this really about, Xiao Guo?”
“Chu ge likes me, I know that. But… Chu ge… Do you not want to do those other things with me?”
Chu feels his blood pressure start to rise. “What gave you that idea? Would I be here if I didn’t like you? If I didn’t find you attractive at all?”
“B-but then why do you always stop? Is… is it because I’m not experienced, Chu ge? I-I’ll learn whatever it is you want me to do!” Xiao Guo suddenly pushes Chu down into the couch and Chu goes easily, stunned by the fact that Xiao Guo is taking the initiative.
Xiao Guo sits on his thighs, a delicious weight. His collarbone peeking out from the over-large t-shirt collar taunts Chu. Xiao Guo bites his lip, hands splayed on Chu’s shoulders to hold him down, but eyes so clear and earnest, determined even.
“Tell me what you want, Chu ge…” Xiao Guo whispers. “I-I’ll do it, I’ll do it for you. I-I want t-to do these things with you Chu ge.”
“I’m in trouble,” Chu thinks because this is probably the closest to truly seductive Xiao Guo has ever gotten, not that he’s ever needed to be seductive to get Chu thinking about taking things further. Chu has thought about it plenty, spent many nights in bed alone thinking about it after their makeout sessions. Xiao Guo had also looked affected, but never pushed.
“Isn’t that just like him, to want but not ask until it gets this bad,” Chu thinks as Xiao Guo fidgets. “But he’s still braver than me.”
Chu puts his hands on Xiao Guo’s hips, rubbing soothing circles with his thumbs. He feels the younger male stiffen briefly before relaxing at the touch. “You must be so tired, chasing after me like this all the time,” Chu says.
“Chu ge cares about me,” Xiao Guo says without hesitation.
“I do.”
Xiao Guo trails his hands down Chu’s chest, tracing the edges of muscles slowly with his fingertips. “T-then it’s ok. I care about Chu ge too.”
“Do you really want to do this?”
“I’m a man too, Chu ge!” Xiao Guo beats Chu’s chest with a fist. “Treat me like one!”
Chu stares up at Xiao Guo’s face, timid yet determined, and pulls him forward so their groins align. Xiao Guo isn’t hard yet, neither is Chu, but the motion sends a spark through Chu’s veins, and Chu feels gratified hearing Xiao Guo moan as well. Chu moves his hands upwards, shifting Xiao Guo’s shirt up, revealing his soft abdomen with the barest hint of abs starting to show. The skin is soft and warm under Chu’s fingertips and he delights in the sensation. Xiao Guo mirrors the action, but his face burns as he makes contact with the defined muscle groups in Chu’s chest.
The world around them seems to dim with their silent exploration of each other. Chu’s fingers brush Xiao Guo’s right nipple and Xiao Guo jerks as if he’s been electrocuted. Chu doesn’t say anything, only raises an eyebrow and Xiao Guo pouts before cheekily pinching one of Chu’s nipples in reply. Chu arches his back at the sensation, reminding them both of where Xiao Guo is sitting.
“Are you sure you want to go further? Your face is so red you might combust,” Chu teases.
Xiao Guo doesn’t reply, but instead shoves his hand down Chu’s pants and the next remark becomes a strangled moan. Chu thinks he’s seen many things, but he’s never seen Xiao Guo look that smug before.
“Wipe that weird grin off your face or it’ll get stuck that way,” Chu grumbles before grasping the outline of Xiao Guo’s erection in his pants. Chu grinds the heel of his hand against the head and is rewarded with the most delightfully high pitched moan which does wonders for his ego.
-------
Guo feels lost in sensation. Chu ge’s hands are just rough enough that every time he strokes Guo’s cock it feels wonderful instead of scratchy. Guo tries to mimic Chu ge’s motions, spreads the pre-ejaculate with his thumb like Chu ge does, follows the same rhythm, twists his wrist in the same way that Chu ge just did that made him close his eyes and shudder.
Guo realizes someone is moaning and wonders if it’s him or Chu ge, feels a hand on his arm pulling him down into a kiss that’s more like sharing air than a press of lips, but it makes him feel a buzz under his skin all the same. Chu ge pulls Guo’s pants down and Guo still feels self conscious enough to blush when his genitals are exposed.
“Don’t blush,” Chu ge whispers into Guo’s ear. “You’re perfect, you’re wonderful, you’re so good, Xiao Guo.” The words make Guo’s face burn even more, but the praise feels wonderful. Guo wants to steal the words out of the air and tuck them into his chest for ever.
“C-Chu ge, c-can I…”
Chu ge nips the shell of Guo’s ear before he says, “Yes.”
Guo sits up and pulls Chu ge’s jeans down, exposing his muscular legs and erect dick. Guo distantly wonders if after seeing it in person, he’d actually be able to go through with imagining it in private.
Chu ge pulls him back down for a proper kiss, his tongue licking the roof of Guo’s mouth, grinding his cock into Guo’s hip, working a thigh between Guo’s legs, letting him do the same. Guo doesn’t know what he wants to do more so he settles for trying to do both, humping Chu ge’s leg and kissing with all that he’s learned.
Chu ge’s hands roam up Guo’s back before grasping at his ass, pulling him forward, controlling the rhythm and Guo can’t bring himself to complain. The press of Chu ge’s fingers around each buttock feels thrilling in ways Guo isn’t sure he’s ready to contemplate. It feels so good, so dirty and messy, and Guo wishes they could go on rutting and kissing and feeling but Guo feels the pleasure start to spike, rising to a peak.
“C-Chu ge…” Guo moans, but instead of stopping, Chu ge pulls Guo down harder. “S-Shuzhi!” Guo cries out and Chu ge stops immediately, but it’s too late and Guo feels himself falling, pushed over the plateau as he orgasms. Guo feels Chu ge working him through it, stroking his cock, his hips, his thighs, his chest, calling him beautiful, wonderful, all sorts of adjectives that Guo would have never used to describe himself.
When Guo comes down from his orgasm, he feels weightless and slightly mortified at just how big the pool of semen is all over Chu ge’s shirt. Chu ge seems unphased if the rapid way he strokes his own dick is any indication. Guo screws up his courage and knocks Chu ge’s hand away and engulfs the erect member with his mouth, sucking and stroking with his tongue. It’s messy and lacks any sort of finesse, but Chu ge moans out loud and Guo thinks that means he’s doing fine. Chu ge’s hand is immediately in his hair, pulling on the dark strands, tiny twinges of pain that do nothing to stop the feeling of satisfaction growing in Guo’s gut. He did this to Chu ge.
“Xiao Guo! You don’t have to-”
Guo makes a point to suck particularly hard at that moment and is rewarded with a moan and feels Chu ge’s release in his mouth, swallowing on reflex. Guo wonders if that was the proper thing to do when he is pulled up and Chu ge is kissing him again. Deep, lazy, and satisfying kisses that share the bitter salt taste in Guo’s mouth between them. Not that Guo minds the taste; Guo doesn’t think there are many things he’d mind about Chu ge at this point short of being a serial killer or bank robber.
“How do you feel,” Chu ge murmurs into Guo’s mouth in between kisses.
“Tired and sweaty,” Guo replies as he collapses on Chu ge’s chest, ignoring the feel of his own ejaculate seeping into his shirt. “But so, so good.”
“You’re making a mess,” Chu ge says, but his tone is fond as he strokes Guo’s back, pushing his shirt up to keep the skin to skin contact going. If Guo thought feeling Chu ge’s hands on his dick was amazing, it has nothing on back rubs. Guo almost wants to purr like Da Qing when he gets scratched under his chin.
“I promise I’ll clean it,” Guo mumbles.
Guo doesn’t notice Chu ge’s smile as they continue to lay together in the afterglow.
-------
Neither of them notice the piece of yellow paper skittering across the floor like an insect into the apartment.
